The grapes come from vineyards in the commune of Neive, Cru Currà and Cru Fausoni. Currà was purchased in 2001 and it takes the name from curà, Piedmontese dialect for curate, as it was once the property of the parish of Neive. The four hectars vineyard produces refined wines with great personality. Fausoni, named after the village near Nieve, is a two hectar vineyard in which Barbera is planted (on the southern slope), together with Nebbiolo and Chardonnay. Fausoni gives complex yet harmonious wines with structure and pronounced tannins. Soils here are calcareous marine with blue marl and limestone. The vines are approximately 50-60 years old and planted at a density of 4,300 vines per hectare.
Vinification
Harvest was carried out by hand, and the grapes went through two selections, the first in the vineyard and the second in the winery. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 10-15 days at 28ºC. The wine was aged in used French oak barriques for 12 months.
