Deep ruby red in colour, this wine has a rich bouquet of red and black fruits on the nose. The palate is rounded and rich, with the Sangiovese bringing lively acidity to the richer, blackcurrant notes of the Cabernet, and the supple tannins of the Merlot.

Pomino

Producer
The Selvapiana Villa di Petrognano Pomino is made possible thanks to the friendship of the owner of Petrognano, Cecilia Galeotti Ottieri and Francesco Giuntini. Selvapiana rents six hectares from Petrognano to grow their vines for this wine. A unique and beautiful area situated at the foothills of the Appennines, it lies on the border between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. In 1716 the Gran duke of Tuscany Cosimo III de’Medici made the first law to protect Pomino as one of the four most important wine appellations, along with Classico, Carmignano and Valdarno Superiore.
Vineyards
Planted in 2005, the Guyot-trained vines are situated on dry, stony and well-drained medium Galestro soils at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level with south/south-western exposure. Vine density is 7,200 vines per hectare and the average yields are 45 hectolitres per hectare
Vinification
Fruit was hand harvested. After destemming and pressing, fermentation took place partly in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel vats, and partly in wooden vats at 28-30°C. Maceration lasted for 25 days, with daily pumping over. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for 18 months; the Sangiovese was aged in 25 hectolitre French oak casks, while the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were aged in smaller French oak barriques. The final blend took place in stainless steel, after which the wine was bottled and aged for a further six months in bottle prior to release.
